The European Union is reviewing the GAR-SI Sahel initiative, through which it funded and trained reaction squads in six African countries to tackle terrorism and trafficking. It had been preparing a major support plan for the authorities in Ouagadougou but this has now been largely compromised and its future presence in the country rendered uncertain.
